California Academy of Sciences 2015

Pack 996 spent the night at the California Academy of Sciences. It was a great program with complete run of the place along with special treats like live animal demonstrations, planetarium shows, a telescope on the roof, earthquake simulator, penguins, and more.

October 2016 Pack Meeting Update

Pack 996 was visited by Officer Al Molien and his K-9 partner “Hector”. Hector is a 3-year-old male German Shepherd originally from Burback, Germany. His commands are given in German. Officer Molien was partnered with Hector in July 2012. Hector’s name comes from Greek mythology, where his namesake was a Trojan prince and the greatest fighter for Troy in the Trojan War. The K-9 was purchased with community donations from the same Riverside kennel as Bongo and Dar (retired). Blue and Gold Dinner 2015 Update

Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week in February with a “birthday party” called the blue and gold banquet. Like most packs, our blue and gold banquet is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and cheer. 2015 Theme was “Star Wars” The purpose of the blue and gold banquet is to celebrate the pack’s anniversary, thank our pack leaders and other adults who have helped the pack, and inspire the next set of leaders, Scouts, and parents. Our banquet is quite like a regular pack meeting, with songs, skits, stunts, and awards.

Common Registration Problems

subject: pinewood Probably the most common issue during registration last year was cars being over (or severely under) weight.  Racers should come prepared to make simple adjustments to their car’s weight.  We will have a clinic set-up during the check in of the pinewood derby cars that will allow for minor adjustments to the cars. Another common problem was with cars that were too long.  This was normally caused by gluing accessories on the back, or in the front, of the car.  This presents a big problem because it is very difficult to remove the accessories that have been glued
