Red Ribbon Week

Every year, Pack 996 partners with Quail Run Elementary to tie up Red Ribbons along the perimeter of the school in commemoration of Red Ribbon Week. When the week is over, we untie the ribbons and also clean up trash around the school. This year, we had a huge storm pass through the Bay Area right when we wanted to tie ribbons! Rather than reschedule, we chose to come prepared for the wet weather in our raincoats, snow jackets, umbrellas, and anything to protect us from gusting winds. We didn’t get to spend as much time as usual on this

Pack Bike Hike along Iron Horse Trail

We had our annual bike hike, riding as a pack from San Ramon City Hall north along Iron Horse Trail. This is a great opportunity to get some exercise, but also to learn about road safety, rules of the road, and how to share a trail that is used by walkers, runners, and cyclists. Officers from San Ramon Police Department joined us to talk through road safety, we then checked on our Six Essentials, before starting our hike. Some scouts made it all the way to downtown Danvile, while others stopped a bit sooner. We all returned to San Ramon

October Pack Meeting

We introduced ALL of our pack leaders today since we now have den leaders for all of our dens and we have our pack committee! Yay for parent volunteers! We played the ever popular Hungry Human Hippos, had 2 skits, and lots of jokes. All in all, we had a lot of fun tonight. Now that we have our leadership crew set, we’re excited to get some momentum for den & pack activities. Our next event will be the bike hike which will occur on Oct 16th morning. Here’s the presentation from our meeting:

September Pack Meeting

We had a fun first pack meeting to kick off the school year. This is the first in-person Pack meeting since February 2020! Since we have so many scouts who are brand new to scouting, we conducted a Bobcat adventure on the spot where our more experience scouts helped our new scouts complete the adventure. Parents then presented their new scouts with the Bobcat badge. We also played the spaghetti race for our activity. The scouts got a surprisingly large number of noodles into their cups! Here are some pictures from our pack meeting: Here’s the presentation from the meeting:

Welcome to a new Scouting Year!

As we start the 2021-22 school year, Pack 996 is looking forward to a wonderful year of adventures with our scouting families. Here’s some information about what you can expect for the coming year. Scouts will work through a variety of adventures associated with their rank such as learning about first aid, hiking, knot tying, cooking, building, swimming, etc. Scouts will typically meet twice per month:– One

Advancement Picnic

This year, we were able to hold our advancement picnic IN PERSON! This was a great time to see our scouting family out in the warm sun and enjoy some time together (with social distancing and masks, of course!). In addition to our ceremony where scouts received their new rank neckerchiefs and badges, we played a few games and had lots of laughs. Next year, we hope to get back to our extended picnics where families bring lunch and spend a few hours together recapping our year of scouting.
